The Newport Harbor film class, in coalition with the Newport Mesa Unified School District, is hosting the Newport Mesa Film Fest to flaunt the digital media accomplishments of the schools’ programs on Monday, April 8th, attempting to also bring together multiple hands-on classes in NHHS to reach for a greater goal.

“The festival is an awards show to celebrate and promote the digital media arts programs throughout the district,”says film teacher Mrs. Cernak.

The festival, a free event with food from the NHHS Culinary Arts Program, will include many mediums of electronic art- among them: photography, design, animation, and film. Mrs. Cernak and Mrs. Becker, film and photo teachers, are submitting work from Newport Harbor students. It will be held in Newport Harbor’s theater and other schools from the district with film classes will be coming.

“I like the chance to be recognized for the hard work we do on projects,” says sophomore Christian Garcia. “Personally I was going to show off all of the visual arts in my entry- short films, pictures from Photoshop, basically anything you make on a computer- but now I am not sure of what I am going to do.”

The Newport Harbor business class, taught by Mrs. Hirst, is in the process of putting together a Facebook page for the festival. The film class is also going to be making commercials for the film festival that will be featured on the Facebook page and other websites.

Junior Jack Launder says, “I think it will give students a good opportunity to show some of their work and bring awareness to the great film class on campus. Film is a moving art which, if done correctly, can really captivate the audience.”

Launder does not know what he is going to do for his project, but he is  thinking about making a music video of some sort.

The free tickets can be collected from either the ASB office or Mrs. Cernak’s room near the bike racks. The food, from the Culinary Arts Department, does cost money, however.
