Newport Harbor men’s varsity tennis opened up league play at Edison on Thursday March 21, and were led by singles player Reese Stalder who did not lose a single game throughout the whole match, singles player Christian Lee who only dropped one game the entire day, and doubles team of Sean Perrier/Garret Byers, Michael Eder/David Schaefer, and Jerry Martin/ Adam Josephson all won 2 out of 3 sets for the Sailors. 

The men's varsity tennis team has improved throughout their season to 8-5 with a 13-5 win over Edison.  The varsity men’s tennis team bounced back from their loss against Fountain Valley with two big wins over Edison and Huntington Beach on March 27 and 28.  The men’s team has improved to 10-6 overall and 3-1 in league.  The Sailors started out their season by competing in the Sage Hill Lightning Invitational on March 1 and defeated four competing schools in route to a repeating two time champion.  The team defeated Oaks Christian 6-3, Tesoro 6-3, Sage Hill I 7-2, and Sage Hill II 9-0. 

The team moved forward to play Laguna Beach earning a 16-2 victory.  Sophomore Reese Stalder won two out of his two singles sets at the #1 starting position, senior Christian Lee won three out of three of his singles sets at the #2 spot, and freshman Gavin Leonard won two out of three singles sets at the #3 singles spot. 

 Juniors Sean Perrier and Garret Byers continued their 8 set winning streak at #1 doubles winning 2 out of 2.  Sophomore David Schaefer and junior Phillip Vu pulled off their first sweep at the #2 doubles spot, and seniors Michael Eder and Adam Josephson playing #3 doubles won two out of two sets.  NHHS men’s tennis team moved to 6-3 overall after defeating Tesoro 11-7 at home on Monday, March 11.  Reese Stalder swept at #1 singles, Christian Lee swept at #2 singles, and Sean Perrier and Garret Byers won two out of three sets at #1 doubles.  Gavin Leonard added a set at #3 singles, as did Phillip Vu and David Schaefer at #2 doubles and Michael Eder and Adam Josephson at #3 doubles. 

The Sailors improved to 7-5 after defeating Sage Hill 15-3 at home on Monday, March 18th.  The Sailors were led by sweeps from Reese Stalder, Christian Lee, Gavin Leonard all playing singles, and from Sean Perrier and Garret Byers playing doubles.  Overall the men’s tennis team has been strongly competing and improving as they move forward in season.  Come support NHHS’s men’s tennis team tomorrow, April 11, as they play the Los Alamitos Griffins.  Varsity’s match begins at Los Alamitos at 3 pm.
